Valdocs 2 Editor File Blocking and Store Recovery This technical information is provided by Epson Systems Product Support Group. While it should prove useful to you we cannot guarantee that it will hold true in every instance. This is the second solution to assist you in recovering from an Editor error. The steps outlined here assume that you can get to the beginning of the document (CTRL-W) and the end of the document (CTRL-Z) without any difficulty. If you cannot do so, follow the instructions in the paper titled "Valdocs 2 Editor File Merge Recovery". Whenever you are instructed to enter CTRL-B (or CTRL- and any other letter) you only need to hold down the CTRL key and type that letter along with it. Recovery using the Block menu store 1. Enter CTRL-W. 2. Enter CTRL-B and select ark block. 3. Enter CTRL-Z. 4. Again enter CTRL-B and select ark block. 5. Enter CTRL-B once more and select tore block as a document to disk. 6. Select ndexed document, give the document an appropriate name, and press STORE. 7. Now that the blocked document has been stored you can clear the screen with CTRL-M E T, if you like. If the Valdocs 2 Editor encounters an error while trying to block the whole document, you will not be able to store it. You may choose to mark a block around the good segments of text that are before and after the error and store each separately. Of course, any text that cannot be put into a block and stored will have to be re-entered, but that should be a minimal amount of work. You may even be able to get a screen dump of any text that cannot be blocked and stored, so that you will have a hard copy of the text that needs to be entered. After successfully storing the block segments, you can then clear the Editor screen with CTRL-M E T and follow this simple procedure to recreate the document through merging. 1 87.7.15 Recovery by merging Block-stored segments 1.
